WHEN WE DEFIED HEAVEN is a re-telling of an ancient apocalyptic text, the Book of Enoch. Though deemed heretical by early Church Fathers, fragments found among the Dead Sea Scrolls indicate it was once widely read. Thought lost forever, it was rediscovered in Ethiopia in the 1700s and translated into English in the 1800s.
The account expands on the Bible story of The Fall of Man. In it, fallen angels called Watchers repudiate divine law to marry “the daughters of men”. This act of rebellion brings about the Great Flood, a catastrophe described in over 200 myths around the world.
