Are humanity’s myths about Bronze Age Sky-gods dimly remembered accounts of an extraterrestrial invasion? Did semi-divine slaves called Watchers reject lifespans of 500 years to possess the women they loved? Explore the shocking truth behind ancient myths. Discover the forbidden passion that defied heaven in this thrilling tale.

In a world filled with superstition and ignorance, a healer named Eva contravenes divine law to delve into the forbidden knowledge of the Annunaki. What she discovers is more terrifying than she could have imagined.
As the Chief Administrator of the Watchers, Samjaza should never have allowed himself to fall in love with a wildling woman, especially one unafraid to challenge the laws of the gods and incapable of taking no for an answer. But Eva’s determination and bravery draw him in, leading to a love that shakes the very foundations of Heaven itself.
In a race against time and extermination at the hands of the Annunaki, Samjaza and Eva must fight to protect everything they hold dear. But will their rebellion be enough to change their fates, or will they succumb to the power of the gods?

WHEN WE DEFIED HEAVEN is a re-telling of an ancient apocalyptic text, the Book of Enoch. Though deemed heretical by early Church Fathers, fragments found among the Dead Sea Scrolls indicate it was once widely read. Thought lost forever, it was rediscovered in Ethiopia in the 1700s and translated into English in the 1800s.
The account expands on the Bible story of The Fall of Man. In it, fallen angels called Watchers repudiate divine law to marry “the daughters of men”. This act of rebellion brings about the Great Flood, a catastrophe described in over 200 myths around the world.
While the Book of Enoch is said to have been written down approximately 300 BCE, some speculate it is a dimly remembered account of the Pleistocene Extinction Event, a calamity (possibly a comet impact) that brought on the Younger Dryas Ice Age, caused massive extinctions, and initiated the Neolithic Period of human development.

“Hayman’s latest novel is filled with interesting facts and fascinating flights of speculation. Anyone with the slightest interest in parapsychology, quantum physics, ancient aliens, and/or human pre-history should run, not walk, to the nearest bookstore and buy it. This novel is certain to be nominated for a Hugo—(Some reviewer in the near future, probably.)
“This re-imaging of the Book of Enoch is not only expertly crafted, it’s long overdue. Kudos to Hayman—(Some other reviewer, maybe)
